What is SD card and how does it grow?
Oct 24, 2022| MicroSD card is a very small flash memory card. It is also a memory card used in mobile phones and some digital cameras.
Formerly known as Trans-flash Card, the SDA Association officially changed its name to Micro SD Card at the end of 2004. Before the introduction of Micro SD, mobile phone manufacturers used embedded memory. Although this type of module is easy to install, there is a problem that it cannot meet the actual trend - the capacity is limited. There is no room for further upgrades. Micro SD imitates the application mode of SIM card, that is, the same card can be used in different models of mobile phones, so that mobile phone manufacturers no longer have to worry about the development and design of plug-in cards.
Micro SD cards are now mainly used in mobile phones, but due to their small size and increasing storage capacity, they are now used in GPS devices, portable music players and some flash memory disks.
The size of the Micro SD card is 15mm x 11mm x 1mm, which is almost equal to the size of a fingernail. It is the smallest memory card at present. It can also be connected to the SD card slot through an SD adapter card. MicroSD cards currently offer capacities of 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1G, 2G, 4G, 8G, 16G and 32G.
History
On March 14, 2005, SDA announced the format of microSD at the 2005 Annual Conference on Mobile Communications and Wireless Networks in the United States (CTIA Wireless 2005), and approved the final specification of microSD on July 13, 2005. At the initial public sale, microSD storage capacities included 32MB, 64MB, and 128MB.
Today's smart phones have entered the era of large capacity. Compared with the past, the biggest change is that many mobile phones have removed the TF card (microSD memory card) slot. However, with the increasing use of surveillance cameras, dashcams and other devices, we need the microSD card to be always online because it's so compatible.
